Uses in traditional medicine :

  • A drop of oil extracted from seeds is placed on the tongues of children as a brain tonic

Scientific Research

Chemical constituents:

Sesquiterpene polyol esters: dihydroxy agrofuran derivatives and angulatueoid from seed oil and seed extracts

Bioactivity :

Seed oil: decrease the turnover of central  monoamines and involves in aminergic systems in the learning and memory process; aqueous and methanol extracts of seeds: cognitive enhancing properties, hypolipidaemic; methanol extract of flowers and whole plant: analgaesic, anti-inflammatory

Clinical:

Ingredient of the tablet ‘Geriforte’ which can be used for menopausal symptoms; Ingredient of the syrup, ‘Mentat’ used for treatments of hyperkinetic children
