Chemical constituents:

Alkaloids, steroids, triterpenoids, tannins, glycosides, flavonoids and phenols such as 4-hydroxybenzoic acid from leaves; indole derived compounds: tryptanthrin, indigo, indirubin, isatin, isatoic anhydride and citric, malic and isocitric acid found in fruit; terpenes: eugenol, linalool, (E,E)-farnesol and nerol from flowers

Bioactivity :

Ethanol extract of whole plant: antibacterial, wound healing, stimulates human skin fibroblast proliteration; ethanol extract of leaves: antinociceptive, anti-inflammatory; methanol extract of flowers: stimulates cell mediated and antibody mediated immune responses; isatin: antioxidative, anticancer; chloroform extract of fruit: antimicrobial, antibiofilm forming
