Aerial part

Uses in traditional medicine :

  • Porridge prepared from aerial parts is taken to improve digestion, appetite and vision
  • Acts as a stomachic, cholagogue and a laxative, and is used to treat anorexia, dyspepsia and congestion of liver

Chemical constituents:

Terpene: ursolic acid, flavonoids and flavonoid glycosides: vitexin, genistin, sterols: fucosterol from plant; β-phenethylamines, indole derivatives and alkaloids: trigonelline, stachydrine, betaine from the roots

 

Bioactivity :

Methanol extract of leaves: antiulcer; methanol extract of whole plant: analgaesic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidative
