Traditional Knowledge

Useful plant parts :
Latex, seed and leaf

Uses in traditional medicine :

  • Low concentrations of crushed seeds are taken as a purgative and a treatment for vomiting
  • Latex of the young shoots are applied on wounds, ulcers and skin infections
  • Poultice prepared of ground leaves are applied continuously for a long term for scabies

Bioactivity :

Crude methanol extract plant: antifungal; hexane, ethyl acetate, chloroform and methanol extracts of root: antibacterial; acylphloroglucinols and labaditin: immunologically active; multifidone: cytotoxic to cancer cells
