Traditional Knowledge

Useful plant parts :
Whole plant, leaf and tender shoot

Uses in traditional medicine :

  • Decoction of leaves and tender shoots is taken for chronic rheumatism, cough and cold
  • Leaf infusion is taken internally in the treatment of pains in the head, paralysis of one side of the body and facial paralysis
  • The leaf juice is used in the treatment of earache
  • The whole plant is an emetic and a febrifuge and decoction is used to treat bruises

Chemical constituents:

Aromatic amines: 2-amino benzyl alcohol and its derivatives, stigmasterol, terpenes: lupeol, 16 – hydroxylupeol from leaves

Bioactivity :

Ethanol extract of leaves: antiarthritic, antioxidative; methanol extract of stem: hepatoprotective; alcohol extracts of aerial parts and roots: anti-inflammatory and/or analgaesic
