Uses in traditional medicine :

  • A tea spoon of powdered dried roots mixed with ghee is taken after dinner to improve male sexual ability; high doses are not recommended

Scientific Research

Chemical constituents:

Saponins: astragaloside II, IV, VI, flazin and gingerglycolipid A, rotenoid: boeravinone from roots, β-sitosterol-β-D-glucoside, rotenoids and terpene: ursolic acid from flowers

Bioactivity :

Tuber extract: antioxidative, antimicrobial; methanol extract of aerial parts: vermicidal, anthelmintic; crude hydroethanolic extract of leaves: antinociceptive, anti-inflammatory; ethanol extract of roots: enhances insulin sensitivity,  hypoglycaemic,  hypolipidaemic
