- Salad prepared with tender shoots with leaves is taken to arrest internal bleeding in the digestive tract
- Used as an appetiser and a wound cleanser
- Used to treat scurvy, constipation, piles, strangury and mercury, arsenic and datura poisoning

Chemical constituents:
Flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoids, saponins, cardiac glycosides, phlobatannins and steroids found in aerial parts; tartaric and citric acids and calcium oxalate from leaves; flavonoid glycosides: isoorientin, isovitexin and swertisin from leaves
Bioactivity :
Alcohol and aqueous extracts of leaves: antibacterial, hepatoprotective, antioxidative, cardioprotective; methanol extract of whole plant: antisecretory and antiulcer
