Traditional Knowledge

Useful plant parts :
Root

Uses in traditional medicine :

  • The decoction of the root is taken for acute congestion of the liver
  • Poultice made of roots with sesame oil is applied for itching skin

Scientific Research

Chemical constituents:

Hydrocarbon esters: vinyl hexylether, shellsol, 2,4-dimethyl hexane, 2-methylnonane and 2,6-dimethyl heptane from leaves

 

Bioactivity :

Alcohol extracts of plant: analgaesic, anti-inflammatory, hypoglycaemic; methanol extract of leaves: antibacterial; methanol extract of roots: wound healing, depressant; hexane and ethyl acetate extracts of aerial parts: antitumour; shellsol, vinyl hexylether,2,4-dimethyl hexane: active against food-borne and food-spoilage pathogens

Clinical:

Ingredient of herbal compositions for the reduction of chronic inflammatory skin disorders

 

Note :

Aerial parts can cause skin irritation
